Membership General FAQ»

Q: Why is ASC making changes to its membership program?
A: To provide membership choices that better fit current member demographics, allow greater customization, and reflect the growing needs of the institution to continue offering the best possible science exhibits and content available. Depending on the selected membership level, they include new benefits, such as half-price or free Sudekum Planetarium tickets, early Saturday access, and additional guest passes.

Q: When was the last time ASC made changes?
A: 2008

Q: How long will ASC honor my current benefits?
A: Benefits for memberships purchased prior to February 1, 2014, will be honored through the expiration date printed on your membership card.

Q: Why are the prices different?
A: The modest rate increase of some membership levels helps offset the rising costs of member benefits and services and ensures that the generous support of our members provides the greatest possible funding for exhibits and education programs.

We also compared our previous membership pricing with similar institutions locally and across the country and determined that new pricing would better align with those organizations.

Q: What happened to the previous levels such as Family Membership, Grandparent, and Single Parent?
A: We have shifted our terminology from “Family” to “Household” to better represent a broader range of demographics. The benefits available under the Household Membership are similar to the previously titled Family Membership.

The Grandparent option is still available under both Household Membership levels and may be combined with the Senior (65+) affinity discount, if applicable.

In order to avoid confusion that had been occurring with Single Parent membership policies, we now offer a customizable Individual Membership to fit a wide variety of needs.

Q: Do Educators still get a discount? Any other discounts?
A: We offer a 10% affinity discount for TN Educators, Seniors (65+), Active/Reserve/Retired Military, and TN College Students. The discount does not apply to Contributing Memberships, child or caregiver add-on options, or gift memberships. Please note: affinity discounts must be purchased in person at ASC and require verification of eligibility each year at the time of purchase or renewal. One discount per membership.

Q: What happened to the Family Access membership level?
A: The Family Access program was intended to be a general admission “annual pass,” rather than a full ASC membership with the standard benefits. To eliminate confusion, the program is now called “Adventure Access” and is available by visiting the Front Desk. To be eligible for an Adventure Access Pass, please present a photo ID and proof of participation in a qualifying program (WIC, SNAP, Families First/TANF) from the associated agency. Adventure Access allows general admission to the Science Center for one year. Member benefits such as the ASTC Passport program, discounted Sudekum Planetarium and BlueMax flight simulator tickets, and other member benefits do not apply.
