The mission of the Volunteer Program at the Adventure Science Center is to fulfill the purpose of the Science Center by utilizing volunteers that benefit from the experience as well. The Adventure Science Center purpose is to be an interactive science-learning center where we provide excellent, fun, educational activities for children and adults. Each volunteer position listed fulfills this purpose. We promise you will have fun, learn, and make a difference. We look forward to working with you.

This year Adventure Science Center Science Center will be offering two volunteer scholarships, to be awarded to one outstanding youth volunteer and one outstanding college volunteer.

Volunteer positions include:

  • Public Programs Presenter Public programs designed for volunteers to present to customers and visitors that bring science to life! These demonstrations can consist of examples of principles of air using hot air balloons and air cannons, using optical illusions to show how the senses work, and a host of other hands on science demonstrations.
  • Gift Shop Volunteer Volunteers are needed for the gift shop to help stock, provide friendly customer service and operate the cash register.
  • Phone Operator This volunteer will handle incoming calls, directing them to the appropriate location.
  • Health Programs Educator Being a Health Hall educator is a great way to directly teach school children on a regular basis. We have programs designed for Health that you will co-teach with one of our educators!
  • Greeter/Exit Interviewer We want every visitor to have a wonderful experience. We would also like to encourage visitors to come back and join as members. This volunteer will be available to answer questions, smile, and make the guests visit a pleasure. This is a great customer service position and we need outgoing people who like to talk to visitors and will represent the Science Center.
  • Birthday Party Volunteer The Birthday party volunteer will work with the Facility Rental Director to set up and prepare for birthday parties. There are multiple opportunities to be involved. Volunteers may also plan to be here for the actual birthday parties. They will be accessible to birthday party participants if assistance is needed and will set up the room for the party (put out cake, plates, and prepare goodie bags).
  • Exhibit Interpreter The exhibit interpreter makes the floor exhibits relevant to science, by explaining them, how they work, and the scientific principles they demonstrate.
  • School Orientation Volunteer As a School Orientation Volunteer, you will greet school groups as they are entering the building, deliver the rules of the Science Center, guide them as they go through the exhibit halls and/or escort them to their programs while encouraging everyone to have a wonderful experience!
  • Special Event Volunteer There are special events monthly at the Adventure Science Center. These events can range from Whistlestop our annual train exhibition where volunteers can assist in running the model trains to Preschool Days where volunteers assist preschoolers in hands-on activities based on the topic for the day.
  • Fundraising/ Development Volunteer Fundraising Events include the annual Caper and a Golf Tournament. In this position you can work on a committee for fundraising events and assist with the logistics of the actual event or assist with the administrative duties of the department.
  • Administrative Volunteer Would you like to volunteer for the Science Center, but would rather be “behind the scenes?” No Problem! You can volunteer for administrative duty. Opportunities can include mailings, copying, filing, and data entry based on what you like to do!
  • Education Ambassador This volunteer is responsible for leading school group through the science center galleries and to their public programs. They will also help to add education value to the exhibits buy being able to point out facts to their groups like “Did you know Pumpy, our 10 foot tall heart can pump 2,000 gallons of blood a day, just like your heart!” or that in Brainstorm Theatre the six cartoon characters represent the six parts of your brain.”
